hello.

I'm home from Seattle, and it was an exhausting trip. My workshop and "picture show" (artist lecture) went well, and I had a good time with my pal Myra Kaha. I met good people and a weird cat.

And Seattle is very cool.

Hold tight for a full report. I'm already packing for PENLAND, which is next on my crazy summer tour. But I am changing gears now from workshop-teaching to workshop-taking. yay!

Trying to decide which typewriter is escorting me back east. I'm thinking my pretty lil' baby hermes...

The newest new you ever knew.

I'm back from faraway, and unusually optimistic about the months ahead.

I'm still healing from the wisdom teeth episode, but it is a great relief knowing that they can't bother me anymore. And yeah, I kept them:

Besides the teeth, this caribbean blue le creuset cast iron pot is new:

My family and I watched all three seasons of "arrested development" over the holidays, while I spun lots of yarn:

oh, and this is new to me:

There are more new pictures on my flickr page, I listed new-ish pieces for sale in my etsy shop, and much more news to share in the coming days....stay tuned.

My new friend.

Grey-blue "Hermes Baby" from the 1940s. Its a mini typewriter, measuring 11" X 11" X 2.5".

Made in Switzerland but sold from a dealer in Zurich, Germany. The Z & Y are switched, and it has umlauts and other good stuff.

Ain't she pretty? I'm so easy to please, really.

Oh, yes...this is an Ebay find.

Patchworking.

Where's Michelle? What's she doing? I've been busy, and I really haven't felt like being on my computer lately.

If you're in California and feel like going to Santa Ana on Sunday May 4th, I strongly encourage you to check out the Patchwork Indie Art & Craft Show. I went to the first one back in the fall, and I am delighted to be a vendor this time around. The event is from 11-5, and it is in the parking lots behind the Road Less Traveled store. It's right off the Five freeway. The event is organized by Random Nicole. She's cool too. Everything's cool! It will be a good event...come say hi!

My students have been working on photo-polymer-plate-water-etchings, (every time I talk about this process, I call it something different...) For my demo, I exposed a couple of plates with typewriter drawings. Not sure what I'm doing with them yet, but they're nice to look at.

Girls and their typewriters....

Papercuts & Gluesticks

Check out the blog: Papercuts & Gluesticks. (There's also an under-construction website here.) This is a little gallery/studio that just opened near Cleveland, Ohio. I must say, I am very pleased with whom I'm sharing wall space! Etsy sellers including some of my favorites, corid, and kindred spirit michelemaule, and what looks like a bunch of other good people. I can't wait to see more of images of the gallery and the opening. Congrats, Kari, and thanks again for the opportunity!

Here's a picture of a few of my little pieces, looking fantastic in their lovely Ikea frames:

Speaking of Michele Maule, look what I got in the mail two days ago:

Maybe my favorite Etsy purchase to date. Check out her store & blog. I'm a fan.

What else is good? Homemade Sunday brunch with friends and boyfriend, rainy-california-february days, four-sale days at my Etsy store, well over a thousand "hearts" on Etsy, blue-plaid skirt days, and really strong coffee. I've had so much coffee that this may very well be the best day ever, in the history of the universe.

enjoy it!

Robot Party.

I just re-read J. D. Salinger's "Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters":

"Oh, God, if I'm anything by a clinical name, I'm a kind of paranoiac in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy."

You can tell it's going to be a great day when, at 7:30 am, you learn there's a "robot party" going on in a gated community.

I had a very successful day selling work at the Barnsdall Arts Market. It was a lovely cold-for-California day, and I was glad to spend it outside. The crowd was pretty consistant throughout the event, and there seemed to be more people attending this time around. I saw a few people I know, made a couple of gift purchases.... Really my only complaint is that I forgot a chair and spent the day on my feet.

Sold lots of felt brooches, shrinky-dinks, and works on paper. Explained what "shrinky-dinks" are ten-thousand times. (gladly!)

here are some of the brooches:

I somehow managed to come home with a new-old blue-and-white typewriter. I was speaking with a couple of people about typewriters, and my preference for the blue variety, and a fellow mentioned he had a blue one that he never uses. This evolved into a trade. If people regularly offered me typewriters in exchange for art, I would be in trouble.

Some of the letters stick, and it smells a tad smoky, but isn't it pretty?

Best Barnsdall Arts Market EVER!

Lemons, Lists, & Blue Typewriters.

Brisk, blue days. Fruit on trees.

The past couple of days I have been trying to take care of all sorts of business. Travel plans, to-do piles, lists. Trying to organize the universe before I leave town.

I made a couple of purchases on ETSY today. I was excited to find rarrarpress on Etsy, and I purchased a couple more of her fantastic letterpress typewriter cards. I have two blue typewriters, (presently on the other side of the country) and suspect this to be the start of another crazy collection.
