O, poor neglected blog.

Here's the news in brief.....

1. The Toe River Arts Council studio tour is sneaking up, and I'll be exhibiting at Lisa Blackburn's studio. I am excited about this weekend-long event, and as always, feel like there's no way I have enough work finished. I'm starting to think I will always feel that way, forever. That could be a motivating factor if it doesn't paralyse me with fear.

2. The same weekend as the TRAC tour, my friend Yvonne will arrive from California! She'll be staying with me and will be participating in a two-week ceramics class at Penland. I am super excited for her. (and have a lot of cleaning to do!)

3. I AM WORKING ON A WEBSITE. I know I've said that before, but really. I am in the midst of a trial membership with "squarespace" and I'm planning on committing in the next few days. It will be pretty simple. ...What would you like to see on my website?

4. In related business news, my pal Beth Schaible is making me business cards! I'm so glad. Last night I ran down to Asheville to attend the grand opening of 7 Ton Letterpress Collective, of which Beth is a member. Way cool.

5. In the Fall I will be teaching Intro to Drawing and Lithography at Appalachian State University, in Boone, NC. That's about an hour north of here. Really, Michelle? Yes, really. It is two days a week, and I'll still be working in the Penland Gallery three days a week. I am already bracing myself. (BTW, you should check out that "gallery" link...we recently did a major revision on the gallery's website.)

6. Gardening. A lot. Maybe I'll take some pictures today. For now, here's a picture of a million radish seeds. A while ago I accidentally left a few partial-packets of seeds out in the rain.....and since they got soaked, I went ahead and planted all of them at once. I have radishes aplenty for a while...

Okay. There's art to finish, a house to clean, a lawn to mow, and tomatoes to stake. Happy Sunday!

I walked down the sidewalk today kicking a pine-cone, arguably one of life's most satisfying pursuits. I believe it was fun for the pine-cone as well.

I've been busy and productive since returning to Los Angeles: visiting with family and a few friends, continuing organizing the universe, letting things go, watching Doctor Who while making books, (or making books while watching Doctor Who...) drawing pictures, taking note of deadlines, then forgetting about deadlines, enjoying consciously as well as sleeping soundly thorough 1960s Disney science shows like this, writing many letters (on the computer and in my head), working on a website, and planning plans.

Or at least daydreaming daydreams.

I suppose things are good in Los Angeles. I start teaching again at CSUN very soon.

Time. and Space.

I realized today that I have two weeks left in this semester. Also that tomorrow is December. Whoa. The future is now.

I am excited about the any-day-now birth of my best friend's little girl. I can't wait to be crazy aunt michelle to this little person, and wish I wasn't quite so far away from Murray, Kentucky.

My best friend on this side of the country is moving back to the other side of the country, and although I am super excited for him, I'm a little mopey about it too. Boo.

Sunday was great! Thanks to the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts, all the good people I talked with and shared my work with, friends and well wishers, and Wes, who helped carry a table and took these photos.

I have a lot going on.

No news to share, but a lot going on.

Hello.

I'm working on grades and wrapping up the semester at CSUN and LMU, which means soon, dear friends, I will be returning to regular blogging, regular art-making, and reopening the ol' etsy shop. This has been a tough semester with all-together too much driving, and I am itching to resume my Michelleish pursuits.

A Sleeping Ferriswheel.

Okay.

This semester is nearing the end. And it has been a tough one. Very tough.

I have been drawing and sewing a lot more this past month, and these works-in-progress are happily moving around in my studio. (I don't mean on their own...that would be creepy.) My Etsy sabbatical will continue a while longer; not because of laziness or busy-ness or lack of work...I just need to make work for myself for a while, without sharing it with the universe immediately. Does this make sense to anyone?

Also thinking about summertime, far-away-friends, adopting a cat, race-horses, sugar-lift, LOST, getting my hair cut, organizing my closets, and saving money.

March First.

There's been a flurry of activity in my Etsy shop, as I had a piece featured in an article in the Storque the other day. Hooray! I've been too occupied with teaching (and driving) to post new work in my shop lately, so unfortunately a whole lot of people have been looking at my almost-empty shop...ah, well.

Today is one of my furlough days, so I'm catching up on life stuff like laundry, dish-washing, mail, and rest. This was quite a busy weekend, so I timed my furlough day right.

I am happy it is March First. Its one of my favorite days in the whole year.
