Ferriswheel Friday.

Happy leap-day, everybody!

Last night I thought to myself, "you know what your blog needs, Michelle? More ferriswheels."

Obviously.

So I'm going to try to post a ferriswheel picture every friday. Some will be photos I've taken, some others have taken, some of my art, some from other artists. My ferriswheel research is pretty extensive.

I love ferriswheels. I've often been asked what that's all about. The attraction is not all that profound. I have always drawn pointy little wheel-like things, and over the years I have been attentive to objects that resemble the things I draw.

Today's ferriswheel picture was taken long ago, but the date on the image doesn't seem right. It was in the spring of 2000, I think. My best friend took this in Chicago, on Navy Pier. That's me, all blurry in a red hat.

Appropriately enough, I posted three ferriswheel pieces today in my Etsy store. Also a strange and wonderful ol' piece with doorknobs. Check it out!

March soon.

The past few days I have had several Etsy sales and lots of good news. Avocados are free and plentiful, and I've been making lots of work. Well, I have started a lot of new things. The above image is my works-in-progress wall of my studio apartment. There are a bunch of ferriswheel etchings, some fossil/seashell pictures that have been hanging around for a while, and the purply wine-drawings I started last night.

Sometimes a girl's just gotta have some wine, put on Lord of the Rings, and draw some pictures. Lately I've been doing so much "tight" sewing, that it was really a nice switch to just draw. I was drawing from johnny jump-ups and some of my dissected pocket watches, but the finished pieces will not be entirely representational.

Five years ago I was installing my Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition. Below are a couple of low-quality images of the very-large quilt-like pieces from that show. These were silkscreen on mulberry paper, with sewing, tea and watercolor. They had a lot of insane detail; sometime I should re-photograph these guys. One is in my parent's collection, and the other is in "the archive". The top orange grove was the first time I had printed an edition and then proceeded to sew all the prints together. So long ago....

This time last year, I was gearing up for my Thesis Exhibition...but that's for another post.

Papercuts & Gluesticks

Check out the blog: Papercuts & Gluesticks. (There's also an under-construction website here.) This is a little gallery/studio that just opened near Cleveland, Ohio. I must say, I am very pleased with whom I'm sharing wall space! Etsy sellers including some of my favorites, corid, and kindred spirit michelemaule, and what looks like a bunch of other good people. I can't wait to see more of images of the gallery and the opening. Congrats, Kari, and thanks again for the opportunity!

Here's a picture of a few of my little pieces, looking fantastic in their lovely Ikea frames:

Speaking of Michele Maule, look what I got in the mail two days ago:

Maybe my favorite Etsy purchase to date. Check out her store & blog. I'm a fan.

What else is good? Homemade Sunday brunch with friends and boyfriend, rainy-california-february days, four-sale days at my Etsy store, well over a thousand "hearts" on Etsy, blue-plaid skirt days, and really strong coffee. I've had so much coffee that this may very well be the best day ever, in the history of the universe.

enjoy it!

Glad.

Pollyanna and bits of thread.

I have added links to a few good Blogs. (over there...on the right side.) More will follow, but not too many more. I must keep things tidy.

I have also been doing major house-cleaning on my computer. I was suffering from a very crowded desktop. Last night I also backed-up my hard-drive for the first time ever. Heh-heh....I live dangerously...

Also updating my CV, and doing laundry. Everything's coming up roses. In closing, here is a picture of a bird observing the Observatory:

President's Day.

Today was a darn good President's Day. I didn't have to teach today, so I drove out to Cal State University: Northridge, and spent the afternoon printing with my friend Jennifer Anderson. My favorite thing about the printshop at CSUN is that the litho stones have names, as seen below:

'SCOOPS' is a way cool little ice-cream shop that also shows art. One of my pieces will be included in a works-on-paper exhibit opening this Saturday, February 16. There's a reception between 7:00-10:00pm. Art and Ice Cream? You love it!

Scoops is at 712 N. Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90029

Where's Michelle?

Hello world! Busy days. New apartment, new semester, new cold I am trying to fight off. I posted three new darling lil' pieces tonight on Etsy; more to come. This weekend I will also be writing about coolstuff (people, art, things) on this very blog.

I will also spend my weekend putting together Ikea furniture, and trying to organize the universe. And also drinking copious amounts of tea.
