Elsewhere.

Elsewhere, in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a "living museum set within a former thrift store." I am fascinated by this place. I stumbled upon it years ago (on the internet I mean) when I was in grad school. Re-stumbled upon it while opportunity-hunting earlier this week. As many of you strangers know, I have a personal and academic interest in both logical and illogical collecting, arranging, accumulation and...let me say it quietly......hoarding.

hmm.

I hope to visit this place sometime. Anyone ever been there?

It draws me, too. Collections can be so visually stimulating....

I had this pen pal, Molly. We had never met in real life. We only communicated through mail, not internet. One day, she emailed me. She was doing an installation at a place called Elsewhere and for part of the display, she wanted us to meet in real life for the first time in front of a crowd of people and have a exhibited conversation. I live three hours away from Elsewhere so my husband and I made it happen.

We had never heard of Elsewhere.

When we got there, it was as though we had found the missing pieces of our puzzle. We had found our one perfect niche in this world. People we had never met were like old friends. It's really impossible to describe the feelings of that amazing night.

Molly and I are sisters. We met in a display window.

The night was perfect. It was all dressing up in vintage clothes, talking and singing and staying up all night writing songs and sharing ourselves. It was magical.

The museum is SO COOL! It is vast and filled with strange things from the past. There is a treehouse in the kitchen and it is FULL of military surplus bags. There is a room waist deep in RIBBONS. There is a giant tornado from floor to ceiling made of toys.
